National Assembly Speaker Ana Brnabic said on April 30 that talks with the opposition on improving electoral conditions and meeting the ODIHR recommendations would continue until local elections on June 2.

Brnabic, a Serbian Progressive Party official, told a news conference after a party presidency session that a "paradoxical situation" occurred during talks with the opposition when, after she proposed the immediate formation of a commission to check the voter roll, the opposition asked for the adoption of a law before that, which prolonged the commissions' formation.

Commenting on opposition requests that public broadcasters allot them more airtime, she said that opposition leaders were appearing more frequently on RTV Vojvodina than government representatives.

Remarking on the decision of a part of the opposition to boycott local elections if its demand that they be held in the fall was not accepted, she said that during talks it was the opposition that had "explicitly insisted on June 2."
